There are two iconic trends from the 60’s, they include mod and hippie/hippy fashion. The early 60’s reflect more of the mod style and the later part of the 60’s is when hippie fashion came into the picture. Mod fashion is recognizable for gender ambiguity from the short haircuts, little or natural makeup (except mascara), flat shoes, and men’s trousers or shirts. When mod fashion became more popular, miniskirts, bright clothing, and bold geometric patterns became the style. Mod is also identified by the PVC (vinyl) clothing, tight fitting sleeveless tunics, and tall, brightly colored boots.

Hippie fashion is noticed for long hair, tie-dyed clothing, bell bottoms, peace signs, and peasant clothes. Clothing was preferably handmade, from natural fibers (cotton or hemp), and loose fitting. Hair was worn long instead of the short pixie cut, was free of products, and had a wild nature look to it. Other articles of clothing and styles of clothing included in this genre include peasant blouses, peasant dresses, micro mini skirts, suede knee-high boots, sandals, paisley patterns, fringe, and flower patches.
